Morning walks

Walking through nature is a good way of refreshing your mind and directed attention. On my path to work, I have lots of trees and gardens on the way, by the time you reach office, you would have relaxed your brain and mind and would be ready to get started for the day.

What gets you out of bed

Ever had trouble getting out of bed. Thinking on things or even planning what to do etc and before you realise 1-2 hours would already have passed. And then do you feel good about it, most of the time no. Recently I have been experimenting on the hypothesis, as long as you just acknowledge your thoughts and dont think on top of it. It wont get to you. Most of the time, things are just in our mind and our defense mechanism kicks in. It just wont let you do what you want to. If we are getting too much thoughts, a better way would to not engange brain on thoughts at times.

Curious look at winding down

After a tough day, how do we wind down. We come home, we watch something to relax. Is it really helping? or it is jut making the things worse. Thats a potential place to tweak.

Not thinking

Our thoughts and thinking is what decides us about our inner peace. Its entirely up to us, if we keep ruminating on the thoughts by thinking on it. Then, it just stresses you out unnecessarily. Just observe the thoughts, and acknowledge it. Do not engage on thinking, unless it is required. We may feel it would help to think, about everything. It really doesnt unless you are solving a specific problem.

Habits and thoughts

I feel we are habitual beings, its easy to build that habit and continue doing it. And be consistent about it. If you have streak it is continue to build the streak. However, if you break your streak, its immensely difficult to get into truck. In the sense, the mental effort to bring you into the same track is too much, you may end doing high dopamine low effort things like may be just going over social medias or randomly scrolling streaming websites. If we know the dynamics of our thoughts and how we behave, its possible to hack our mind and get it to do the things. Where does the thoughts orginate? if we just be silent and observer what we are thinking about, we may realise we randomly thinking about lots of things and you may also observe, you can have the control on what you are thinking and once you put a filter there. Then, all the thoughts comes related. It has positive and negative sides, if you are filling it with positive thoughts, more postive thoughts comes in and you would feel good rather if it is the other way round the thought generation goes crazy. Its all about what you want your perception about your thoughts be and you brain will generate whatever you ask it to do.

Getting rid of Alarms

I have been using alarms to reset my wake up time. Most of the time, when I wake up I wont be feeling refreshed, it felt like your sleep is not done even though you have spend enough time in bed. Had tried to setup the alarms by checking 1.5 hours intervals from the time you approximately slept. But still not much of an effect. Thats when i realised why not get rid of the alarms all together. You wake up naturally once your sleep is done. In my case, I usually wake up after 6 hours of sleep if its a normal day and you are not tired too much. And you just get going. Its been two days, will continue this further.

Tweaking things

Sometimes small changes which we make in our daily routines can have a broader impact. One such thing is left shifting your day or eating habits. It just makes you more productive. Waking up early, working on your thoughts, getting your thoughts aligned. Planning your work, getting your exercise sorted. You are ready to conquer the day. And also shortening the work day and getting more done within less time. Focus on only things that matter the most. Only the things which will have more impact, dont take everything on your plate. Distribute the work, be confident in delgating. Well, the experiment goes on. And im feeling really good about it.

Focus on personal things

Things will fall in place when you give more importance to your personal life. In the sense, ensure you are getting good sleep, eating properly, exercising, reading well for your personal growth, etc. Once you have your personal goals sorted, work get aligned in its ways. Most of the time, we give up on things just to get that extra half an hour or 1 hour at work, which may help at that time, but it will bring a significant decrease in productivity the next day (of course sometimes, we may have to take that hit as there would be some urgency associated with it). However, in possible situations, it is beter to not go for that extra hours and rather focus on your personal things and bring discipline to work. Ensure you are putting effective working hours constantly and getting things done in that hours. This will help in building a sustainable lifestyle which brings happiness, and meaningfullness.

Food, tidyness and doing less

Sometimes having just the good food, keeping your surroundings neat and tidy and may be doing a bit less of things, can make you feel good. And when we look the entire day on what have been accomplished, you would realise that you would have done a lot better than when if you had ordered your food rather than prepraring it on your own spending some time, taking lots of work than which you can actually do, or not spending time to put your trash to the bin. We think that all of these things may cost us some time in our day which can be spend other wise in productive time. Unless we delicate this tasks to someone, if it remains there it would have detrimental effect on productivity rather than saving time.

Compounding effect of doing right things

Every day we do lots of things, if we do the right things even when we feel like not doing. That creates a good change. For example, if you wake up and you dont feel like going for your exercise, despite that you went for it. You will be feeling better after it. If we add lots of right things in a day, the effects compounds and you would be in a better place by evening.

Time flies

There is very much limited time which everyone has and it cannot go over 24 hours in a day. The only way is to figure out what matter to you in a day and do them. We will be over enthusiastic during the planning phase when it comes to due execution, we may not be able to do it. Well, it is okay. Just keep going, make progress even it is minimal, once the progress get going, the pace will pick up. Just dont give up in the middle.

People

Its the people around you who will help you get where you want. Sometimes, you may feel things are not doable but you just believe you would be able to do it and others also trust in you and the magic happens.

Delegation

Some times it is not easy to let go. You feel like doing everything by yourself. To scale yourself, it is extremely important to delegate the core tasks whether it be your work related ones or personal things. It will just free up your time for important things

Taking action

Its easy to read stuff and know the ideas, but things make a good difference when you get your hands dirty. When you actually do the action part of it, then it makes all the difference.

Aim long term

Build sustainable day, every day try to get maximum work, maximum entertainment, make time for health, make time for people, there wont be a day tomorrow where you can say, i will just start after i finish this thing. Whatever new habits or routine we are building, ensure it is a sustainable one. In the sense, waking up at 3.30am may sound very productive, you get lots of focused time. But, one thing we are missing out is how our mental state at the time is or are you getting enough sleep, if you want to get enough sleep when you will have to sleep. All this makes it not sustainable, rather if we push it to 5.00 in the morning. now everything is balanced. Start work by max 8.00am, start wrapping up for the day at 5.00 pm and be back home and in your personal time at least by 6.30 or 7.00 pm. Then, we will have a sustainable routine and also on a daily basis, work on something which you really want to do in future interms of taking action which helps maintain your will power and which again helps in all aspects of life.

Discipline is key

Things get chaotic when you get overwhelmed by short term urgency and give up on the things you do as part of your routine. The short term urgency goes away after a bit of time and you will be left with a chaotic mind and lifestyle.

Weekend getaway

Last weekend, we went on a trekking to Kodachadri. Damn, i never thought we wont be having network for two days. It was amazing, no frequent slack pings, no need to check whatsapp, just detached from your online world for two days with nature. It was amazing and indeed refreshing. It just makes me more energised for the upcoming weeks of great work.

Learn, enjoy and do whatever you want

We all get stuck in the thinking loop on what if this, i have things to do. A simple approach can be, life is short and just do it whatever you want to do. Make sure you are not going too much in another direction, a weekly check can give that direction as well.

Deep Focussed state

Ever got into this meditative state, where just listen to what you are thinking. You are trying to connect with your subconscious, you are actually telling how you should be feeling. It just make a huge difference, in the sense you will have a bit more clariy on things, a bit more idea on how to do things and bit more motivation and will power. Well, give it a try.
